Carroll County Crossroads Academy provides alternative school services for students in grades 6 - 12. The program provides intensive, individually-focused academic and social skills programs to enable the students to succeed in the traditional school program. State Law 1187 A+ Education Reform Act requires that students whom have been identified as disruptive and placed in an Alternative Program be served separate from non-disruptive students. The goal of the program Alternative Education Program is to enable students to return to the regular school program.
 Student Enrollment


 

Enrollment

Students are eligible to apply for enrollment into Carroll County Crossroads program if they meet any of the following criteria:

1)       Student has been taken to tribunal, found guilty, and removed from all Carroll County Schools for a duration of longer than 10 days

2)       Parent/guardian has signed a waiver of tribunal and recommendation of disciplinary action is removal from Carroll County Schools for duration of longer than 10 days.

3)       Student who moves into the school district from another state/county/district where they were in or assigned to an alternative education environment.

4)       Student who has a disciplinary staffing where it is determined that the alternative school is the student’s least restrictive environment.

5)       Student who has been adjudicated for a length of time and a committee has determined that this would be the most appropriate setting for the student.

Some students may be placed here for unique circumstances.  All parties involved with the student will meet to determine if this is the student’s appropriate educational placement prior to enrollment.

 Student Intakes

If your child has been long-term suspended or expelled from a Carroll County School, you may have the option to apply for enrollment in Crossroads Academy. Other options while under long-term suspension or expulsion may include attending private school, home schooling, or if your child is 16 or older, not attending school.

If you choose to apply for enrollment in Crossroads Academy, please follow these steps:

1. Withdraw the student from the home school by obtaining an “Enrollment/Withdrawal of Students Following Tribunal Proceeding” form from your student’s home school. Turn in all books and take care of any outstanding debts at the home school.

2. Call Crossroads Academy to set up an Intake approintment (770-830-5012). Intakes are conducted every Thursday from 8:30 am-4:00 pm. 

3. The student and the parent/legal guardian will bring to the intake the following information: Enrollment/Withdrawal of Students Following Tribunal Proceeding Form with all required information, Copy of Tribunal Results or Copy of Waiver, copy of birth certificate, social security card,  immunization record, and proof of residency (utility bill, lease/rent/purchase agreement).

4. The student and the legal guardian must attend the intake where the administrator of Crossroads will determine whether or not the student may enroll. The administrator will review the handbook and the parents/legal guardian and student will sign contracts related to the handbook and rules.


 

 Dress Code for Crossroads Academy 6-12

Restrictive Dress Code (Challenge and Focus Students)It is the obligation of the students to maintain their appearance and personal belongings in a manner that reflects well on themselves and the school.  It is their responsibility, as well as that of their parents, to see that they are properly dressed, well groomed, and following the dress code.

Shirts/Tops
·          Solid black collared shirt.  Shirt must fit and may not be oversized.  For females shirts must fit and must be able to be tucked into the waist of their pants.  No short or mid-riff shirts are allowedAll shirts must be tucked into waist of pants.   Shirts may be purchased at Dollar General, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or other discount stores.
·          No designs, labels, writing, trim stripes, logos, etc. on the black shirt.
·          One white or black undershirt may be worn but must not have trims, logo, writings, etc on it.  Shirt must also be tucked into pants at waist level.
·          Shirt must have sleeves.
·          Shirt must have modest neckline.  It must fit and cannot be too tight or too large.
·          No holes or tears

Belt
·          Must be visible around waist.
·          Leather or cloth.  Belts must be a neutral color (white, black, or brown)
·          No designs, flags, writing, big buckles, initials on belt buckles, chains, or spikes.

Pants
·          Khaki slacks only.  Pants must fit and must be kept at waist level at all times.  Males should not wear oversize pants and females should not wear pants that are too tight.
·          No denim jeans of any color.
·          No designs, large print, patches, or holes.
·          No shorts may be worn underneath the Khaki pants.
·          Must be full length (no shorts, capris, or rolled up).
·          No sweat pants, warm-ups, wind suits, overalls, coveralls, or shorts.
·          Pants must be worn at waist level with belt and must have belt loops.  No “slacking”.  Students who are considered to be “slacking” or who do not have a belt will be given a lock to wear on their belt loops.  No oversize pants are permitted.
·          Females may wear a khaki knee-length skirt with a belt (skirt must have belt loops).

Sweaters/Sweatshirts
·          Solid black, plain sweatshirt only.
·          No hoodies or pockets on the front of sweatshirt.  No designs, labels or logos on the sweatshirt.
·          Sweatshirts must be tucked in at all times.  Failure to tuck in sweatshirt will result in student losing the privilege to wear the sweatshirt.

Shoes
·          Closed toed shoes only.
·          No flip flops or sandals.
·          No high heels.
·          No bedroom slippers or house shoes.
·          No boots may be worn.

Coats/Jackets-A coat or jacket is defined as anything that has a zipper or buttons up.  It is recommended that students wear inexpensive jackets or coats and clearly mark them with the student’s name.  Coats will be hung on rolling coat racks when students enter the building first thing in the morning. Students may pick up their coats as they are boarding the buses.

Jewelry

·          One watch worn at the wrist.
·          No visible body piercings including earrings, eyebrow rings etc.
·          No necklaces.
·          No bracelets, rubber bands, scrunchies, etc on wrist.
·          No grillz or tongue rings.
·          No rings.

Headgear

·          All headgear including bandanas, sunglasses, hats, skull caps, dew rags, etc. are prohibited at all times.  Nothing should be brought on school campus.  Any item of this nature that is brought on campus will be taken up and returned at the end of the school year to a parent or guardian.
·          Extreme hairstyles or extreme hair colors that could be considered disruptive to the learning environment are prohibited.

Tattoos
                Any tattoo that is considered inflammatory or inappropriate must be covered at all times.  Administrators have the right and responsibility to determine what is considered an inappropriate tattoo.

Following the school dress code is an integral part of achieving success at Crossroads Academy.  Students who wish to progress through the point system must adhere to the dress code policy at all times.  Students who consistently and intentionally ignore personal responsibility in following the restrictive dress code will be assigned isolation and/or out of school suspension.
